Given our highly educated and diverse population it should not be surprising that Suffolk County is graced with a deep and vibrant cultural environment. But then the arts have always been an integral part of our heritage. Walt Whitman, Truman Capote and Kurt Vonnegut are just a few of the great writers who lived and worked in Suffolk. Billy Joel and Harry Chapin composed much of their music in Suffolk County, and painters Willem De Kooning and Jackson Pollock had their studios here. Many of the world’s premier performing artists and companies appear on Suffolk’s many stages.

As you explore this site, you will come to understand how important culture and arts are to the residents of Suffolk County. Indeed, they define our character and are an important part of what makes Suffolk one of the finest places in America to live.
