The Office of Film and Cultural Affairs exists to promote and expand the richness of experiences that Suffolk has to offer to residents and visitors alike. While our county is home to scores of museums, many fine works of art adorn our public buildings, religious sites, parks and other non-traditional venues. To make these more accessible we are currently developing a comprehensive, online mapping guide to Suffolk's artistic treasures.
Our office is also deeply involved in the Long Island North Shore Heritage Area initiative. Created through state legislation, the purpose of this initiative is to manage cultural resources for economic revitalization through the identification and preservation of natural and historic places; education concerning local, regional and natural history; the recreational use of special places; and economic development with public and private investment. Long Island Winterfest is an annual, season-long celebration of the cultural excitement found on Suffolk County's East End in the winter. Evolving from the Long Island Wine Council's Winter Festival Wine Passport program, support from the Office of Film and Cultural Affairs and other organizations has helped Winterfest grow to include a broad range of cultural venues. For a full description and calendar of events, visit the Winterfest website at www.liwinterfest.com.
